Me and "The Baby"

Here is a photo of me with my younger daughter. We were at her school's cheer competition this past weekend. They did not compete, but they did perform their cheer for the crowd. It's such a great routine! (Oh, and yes, those are new glasses from the last photo of me.)

A Vacation After 7 Years!

My husband and I took a great vacation with our daughters and family friends back in 2003. We went to Mt. Rushmore and then our family went on to Yellowstone and then Glacier National Parks where we met up with my dad and his wife. This time, it'll be my husband and I along with our friends (minus their kids) and we're taking a cruise!! We're going to take an Alaskan cruise and we can't wait! (The photo was "swiped" from the NCL site.)

Daughter's Accomplishments

Yesterday our youngest daughter received two very prestigious awards. They are the Scholastic Key Awards for Young Artists and Writers. She received a Gold Key for the color photo and the Silver Key for the black and white photo! The Gold Key photo will be sent on to New York City for the National competition! Winners of this National Award include Andy Warhol (art), Robert Redford (art), Truman Capote (writing), Silvia Plath (writing), among many others! What a group to become a part of! We are very proud of her!

Since we got my new car in December, she has been without a vehicle to use, so after the ceremony we went car shopping and this bright yellow Chevy Cobalt is now her ride. She knows this is the one and only vehicle she will get from us, so she's got to take care of it! One good thing about it being so bright and noticeable is that she will have to watch her speed...police will definitely pay attention to a bright yellow car flying by!

Our Frozen World

We have had snow off and on every day since New Year's Eve and we haven't reached freezing (32 degrees F.) since January 1st. It's getting to be a bit much and yes, those are our "icicle" lights encased in real icicles. I don't think the Christmas lights will be coming down anytime soon.

New Hair Cut

OK, here's the hair cut. Still not used to my exposed neck! (Especially in this cold winter weather!!)

New Year, New Me?!

Well, I haven't had my hair cut in a very long time and I decided since it's this long, I may as well donate it. So, today my daughter Lindsay and I went and got our hair cut. I had a total of about 11 inches cut off mine! I haven't had hair this short since I got married in 1986! I will have to take a picture of my new hairdo, but here is one of my donated ponytail! I will be mailing off my ponytail on Saturday to Locks of Love. I hope it helps! I do have to say that my head feels very light and my neck is really cold! :)

Just for Fun...

You Are Realistic Fiction

You are an outgoing person and very interested in others. You have many relationships that are important to you.

You are always willing to lend an ear to a friend with a problem. And you're even pretty good at giving advice!

Some may accuse you of loving drama, but you just seem to find yourself in the middle of it.

You are a true people person. You find the lives of others to be fascinating. You're up for hearing anyone's life story.

Bucket List

I was watching "The Bucket List" today and it got me thinking about the things I would like to do before I "kick the bucket". Now most people are thinking about New Year's Resolutions and what they won't do or stop doing in the New Year, but I thought it would be nice to find out what people would love to do or dream of doing sometime in their lives.

For me, I'd like to learn to let go of worries and just be happy. I'd like to go out to Washington and see my Dad for a good long visit. I'd like to go to Greece and Italy and England and Scotland and Australia....oh, just travel all over the world and all over the US of A.

Now, I am luckier than most. I have a wonderful husband, we have two beautiful daughters and a nice home and I wouldn't trade them for the world. But, I have to admit, I'm jealous of my oldest daughter who has experienced world travel. She's been to England, Ireland and Wales with People to People and now she's spent the last four months in Italy with side trips to Scotland and Spain for her study abroad program. I would just like to travel before I get too old to enjoy it!

A Lovely Post

Kathy over at The Junk Drawer has a post called "What Was Your Very First Memory" and the comments are wonderful! They got me thinking about my first memory.

I don't remember this particular photo moment, but I do have vague memories of this house. My parents moved in with a woman when they were newly married and had left their family homes in Utah to move to California. Juanita had very little family and wanted to have someone live with her to help her out. She was in her early 70s when my parents moved in with her. My first memory is of being held in her arms. I think she might have been giving me a bottle but, I remember touching her face and this flap of skin she had on her neck.

Juanita lost her husband in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918. She loved another man for years but wouldn't marry him because "he drank". She was well ahead of her time as far as women's rights and owned land in California before it was legal for women to own land. I have a couple of her scrapbooks and they are wonderful. She was amazing and even though she died the year I turned 12, I miss her still.

I have other early memories...my brother and I having chicken pox, having my tonsils out, my first stitches...traumatic experiences for a little kid, but those are the ones that stick with you. I do have memories of going to the beach and playing all day, every day of summer. My first bike...my brother breaking his arm the first time when he fell off his first bike.

So, what do you remember? My youngest is always bringing up her early memories and some I don't know where she gets them, but what are your first memories? Were they good memories, traumatic memories or maybe something that was told to you and is linked to family photos?
